Rabbitry News

6.06.09 We are back from a big weekend in Herkimer County. A very good show was put on by the Mohawk Valley folks.  For the Rex, Opan Show A was won by Donna Bowker with a Broken Opal JD, BOS was won by us with WR's Dandy, a Broken Black JB. Open show B was won by us with our black JD "WR's Black Sabbath" and BOS went to Cinnamon Marchione with a beautiful black JB. The Rex specialty show, hosted by the Northeast Rex Club, was won by us with Black Sabbath, and also best opposite with WR's Back in Black, a Black SR buck.  We will be going to Fleetwood PA next weekend for the Mason Dixion picnic and double Rex specialty show.

6.14.09 We returned from Fleetwood Park, PA last evening after the Mason Dixion Rex Club's Picnic and double specialty show.  Like usual, the PA breeders were well represented with a great turn out of Rex- I believe all varieties were shown. Our first show, judged by Wendy Faega (MA), BOB was won by our very own Miss Thang (a black otter SD) and BOS was won by the black otter SB, also owned by us.  This was an unexpected surprise, as this was "little" Frank's first trip out of the barn for a show (and yes, had to be bumped up already!) Between shows, the quality Rex auction took place, where beautiful rabbits were donated by members of the club.  I bid on a gorgeous broken chocolate buck, donated by Angie and Chris Stoner, but didn't end up going home with him. Other donations were given by Tonya Shawder (White JB), Paul Becker (Amber JB), a broken castor JB (didnt catch the consignor-email me if you know so I can update this!) and we consigned a Black JB that went home with Angie and Chris Stoner (best of luck with him, guys!). After the picnic, the Mason Dixion Rex Club had their meeting.  Of note, the club has decided to help the Northeast Rex Club put in a bid to host the 2012 National Rex Show in CT.  Please contact me if you can help in any way in putting on this show.  It will be run by Donna Bowker, but I can pass your info along. It is going to be a lot of work, but will be so nice to have a National show on the east coast for a change!  It was also brought up that the 2011 National show has an accepted bid by the Indiana State Rex Club.  This should be a close Nationals for us NY-er's, we are planning to attend! National Rex Club members should be advised that Donna Bowker is running to be our Representative, and we need representation here on the East coast! Ballots should arrive to members this summer- so be sure to vote for Donna!

After our meeting, the second show was judged by George Long (PA).  BOB went to a broken Castor SB- I believe owned by Val McGill and BOS went to our Black SD, Black Sabbath.

To further our slow-going chocolate program, we got a young pair of chocolate Rex from Angie and Chris- we hope to return your generosity in the future and have some nice homegrown chocolates to show soon!

Despite the ongoing downpours, I think everyone had a pretty good time- lots of beautiful Rex rabbits exhibited by everyone. A big thanks to the Mason Dixion club for hosting, and having us NY-ers!

6.22.09 This weekend was our final Spring show in Cortland, NY.  We had a good turnout of Rex breeders and some beautiful bunnies shown!  BOB was won by WR's Simon, a Broken Chin JB, and BOS was won by WR's Miss Thang, a Black Otter doe.  So nice to see a Chinchilla do well!

In the upcoming weekends we plan to look through some of our upcoming litters (mostly brokens) to decide who to keep for the fall show season. We are also considering showing at the NYS Fair this year.  I will have animals available throughout the summer, so email me if you are interested in anything. See you all in the Fall!

7.13.09  More baby bunnies!  This weekend we had 4 new litters and all seem to be doing very well. See the upcoming litters page for details.  Also check out the updated Mason Dixion webpage- we are featured on their "Meet the Breeder" for the summer newsletter!

8.19.09 Baby bunnies yet again! We have 7 does due this week! We are also looking forward to helping at the 4H weekend at the NYS Fair (Sept 5-6th).  We will be helping to write at the show on Saturday and ask questions in the Decathlon on Sunday.  Hope to see you there!

9.9.09 Blink's new litter appears to contain 2 broken chocolate otters! YAY

9.14.09  Back from Cobelskill this weekend!  We had about 50 Rex and 4 exhibitors.  Show A was judged by Debbie Vecchio.  Cinnamon Marchione won BOB with a beautiful Lilac doe and BOS was our Black Otter buck, Decker's Frankfort.  Show B was judged by Paul Jurgulonis.  BOB was won by Decker's Black Betty, a black doe, and BOS went to Cinnamon with a Lilac buck.  Congrats to everyone who showed, see you next weekend at Batavia!

2.10.10  Back this weekend from the PA State Show in Lebanon, PA.  Lots of nice bunnies shown this weekend!  Congrats to Val McGill who took BOB in all 4 Rex shows with a stunning Broken Castor Sr doe, with an honorable mention for BIS!!! Congrats also to the Stoner's who took BOS in the Sunday specialty with a Black otter buck and earning their first homegrown GC eligible rabbit!

We took BOS in one of the 4 shows this weekend, with our Chinchilla SB, Decker's Hippo, as well as many BOV and BOSV's.  It was great to see all our Mason Dixion friends!  Our next show will be right here in Fulton, NY March 27th- see you there!

Be sure to check out the upcoming litters pages this month, as we start to breed for the 2010 Convention in Minneapolis!
